Choosing where to travel from Dubai is mostly a question of when. The school calendar, the monsoon, the European summer and the aurora season all move on different clocks, and the same destination can be a very different trip in March than in July. This guide maps every month of 2027 to the places that suit it.
Four things that decide the month
The school calendar. The winter break (14 December 2026 to 3 January 2027) and spring break (5 to 11 April 2027) are the two fixed family windows, and summer runs from 2 July 2027. Travelling outside those weeks stretches the same budget further.
The weather at the other end. Dubai's best travel months are its hottest, which is why so many residents leave in July and August. In the other direction, destinations that are unpleasant in their own summer — South Asia, parts of South East Asia — are at their best in the UAE winter.
Visa timing. Schengen appointments are the long pole. If your month is fixed and your passport needs a Schengen visa, start three to four weeks earlier than you would for a visa-free destination.
Price bands, not seasons. Hotel rates in a destination track local school holidays and events more than they track Dubai's calendar. Shoulder weeks immediately before and after a peak are usually the best balance of weather and rate.

January — snow, without the long flight
The Caucasus is at its best: Tbilisi, Yerevan and Baku are three to four hours from Dubai, visa-free for most residents, and cold enough for proper winter. Oman and Egypt suit anyone who would rather keep the temperature up. See the Georgia guide for the winter routes.
February — Ramadan begins
Ramadan is expected to start around 8 February 2027, which makes this a quieter month for flights and a strong one for Umrah. Iceland is in deep winter with the northern lights at their most reliable, and Jordan and Egypt are comfortable for sightseeing.
March — the Eid break
Eid Al Fitr is expected between 9 and 12 March 2027. Short-haul destinations fill first: Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkey. If you can travel in the two weeks either side of Eid, the same hotels cost noticeably less and the weather is similar.
April — spring break in Europe
The school break runs from 5 to 11 April. Southern Europe is warm enough for sightseeing without the summer crowds, and Uzbekistan and Central Asia finally open up after winter. Book by February for this week.
May — the Indian Ocean window
Mauritius and Seychelles have dry, breezy weather before the southern winter, and Sri Lanka's west coast is still in season. Eid Al Adha, expected in mid-May 2027, is the month's travel peak.
June — the shoulder month
Europe is warm and still uncrowded, Iceland gets its midnight sun, and Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are at their most comfortable. Dubai's heat makes this a popular month to leave, before school holidays push fares up.
July — summer holidays begin
Two months of school holiday start on 2 July. South East Asia is the sensible long-haul choice: Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are in the green season with short, heavy afternoon showers rather than all-day rain, which keeps rates well below their winter peak.
August — the busiest European month
Italy, Spain and Greece hit peak crowds and peak rates. If Europe is the plan, Switzerland, Austria and the United Kingdom absorb summer visitors better. Turkey remains the best-value city break of the month.
September — quiet, and the aurora returns
Rates soften across Europe and the Mediterranean, Sri Lanka and Vietnam dry out, and the aurora season reopens in Iceland. It is the best month of the year for travellers who are not tied to a school calendar.
October — the half-term week
The October half-term is the shortest school break and fills fast: a five-day window that parents stretch into nine days with the weekends on either side. Long-haul and short-haul both work — Thailand and Malaysia at one end, Georgia and Turkey at the other.
November — build the National Day trip
UAE National Day falls on 2 and 3 December 2026, a Wednesday and Thursday. Group departures to the Caucasus and Central Asia open for booking in November, and Oman and Jordan work well for shorter trips.
December — markets and the winter break
The winter break runs from 14 December 2026 to 3 January 2027. Europe's Christmas markets are the classic draw, Iceland is in peak aurora season, and Mauritius moves into its summer. This is the year's most competitive fortnight, so book by September.
Matching a month to your budget
Rather than chasing a season, look at the weeks on either side of it. Late March sits beside Eid, mid-June sits beside the summer holidays, and late September sits beside the October half-term. Rooms in those shoulder weeks are usually available at rates the peak weeks never reach, while the weather is close enough to identical.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best month to travel from Dubai?
▼
September and late March are the strongest all-round months: European rates soften outside peak season, the weather is reliable in the Mediterranean and Caucasus, and flights are less contested than in July, August or the Eid weeks.
Which destinations are best from Dubai in summer?
▼
Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the United Kingdom handle July and August best. South East Asia is in its green season with short heavy showers rather than persistent rain, which keeps hotel rates below the winter peak.
When is the cheapest time to fly from Dubai?
▼
Late January, February and September usually see the softest fares. Ramadan also quietens demand for much of February and March, though Umrah routes in the final ten days of Ramadan are the exception and rise sharply.
When can I see the northern lights from Dubai?
▼
The aurora season in Iceland runs from September to March, with the darkest and most reliable viewing between November and February. Daylight is short in December, so plan your day around the hours of usable light.
How do UAE school breaks map to 2027 travel?
▼
The winter break runs from 14 December 2026 to 3 January 2027, spring break from 5 to 11 April 2027, and the summer holidays from 2 July 2027. Eid Al Fitr is expected between 9 and 12 March 2027.
Do I need a visa to travel from Dubai to these destinations?
▼
It depends on the passport you hold rather than where you live. Some destinations are visa-free for UAE residents, others need an e-visa, and Schengen countries require an appointment that can take three weeks or more. We confirm your specific requirement before you book.
