New Year's Day 2027 falls on Friday 1 January. With the weekend, that gives a three-day break from Friday 1 to Sunday 3 January. Taking two days of annual leave before it turns the break into six days, and the school winter break continues until classes resume on 4 January.
Where should we go for New Year from Dubai?

For winter cities, Switzerland, Italy, Serbia and Turkey still have their Christmas lights and markets up in the first week of January. For snow, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are three to five hours away. For the northern lights, Iceland is at peak season. For warm weather, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Mauritius.

Is it worth travelling in the first week of January rather than over New Year itself?

Travel from 4 January and you get the same weather with far better hotel availability, as European schools return and the holiday peak ends. The 2 to 4 January dates are the ones that book out first.
