The Misfalah Kubri is the row of pedestrian bridges over Ibrahim Al Khalil Road on the western side of Masjid al-Haram. They bring you out at King Fahd Gate (Gate 79) — about 250 metres, or two to three minutes, from the bridge exit. How long you walk in total depends on which hotel you book in Al Misfalah: the closest are 225 metres from the Haram, the farthest contracted properties are 2.5 km out.
What is the Misfalah Kubri?
Kubri is the Urdu and Hindi word for bridge. In Makkah it means the pedestrian bridges that cross Ibrahim Al Khalil Road in Al Misfalah, the district on the western side of Masjid al-Haram. The road is one of the busiest in the city, and once it fills after a prayer the at-grade crossings close — so pilgrims walk over it instead. The bridges are how the Misfalah hotels stay genuinely walkable.
Walking in from Misfalah, the bridges bring you out on the western plaza at King Fahd Gate, gate number 79. From the bridge exit that is about 250 metres, two to three minutes, and then a few more minutes inside the complex to reach the Mataf. Agents quote "Misfalah Kubri" as a location for exactly this reason: it tells you which side of that road your hotel is on, and therefore how many minutes you actually spend walking at every prayer.
The name is worth pinning down before you pay a deposit. "Misfalah", "Misfalah Kubri", "Al Hajlah" and "Ibrahim Al Khalil" are all quoted loosely by agents and by hotel listings, and the same brand often trades at two addresses. The walking route, step by step
- 1Leave the hotel onto Ibrahim Al Khalil Road, the main commercial street of Al Misfalah. The Haram is always uphill and east of you.
- 2Walk towards the nearest kubri — the concrete pedestrian bridge over the road. Steps are marked, and the bridges are lit all night.
- 3Cross the bridge to the far side. You are now on the western plaza of the Haram, clear of the traffic.
- 4Head for King Fahd Gate (Gate 79) directly ahead and enter. The Mataf is a few minutes further inside the complex.
- 5Coming back after Isha, take the same bridge — the at-grade crossings are closed to pedestrians once the road fills up.
