The full written guide
Everything above in long form: the calendar, December weather, what to pack, the mistakes that cost people money, and how to compare two packages that look identical.
UAE National Day 2026 falls on Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 December — the country's 55th anniversary, officially marked as Eid Al Etihad. Commemoration Day is observed on Monday 30 November. That gives residents a confirmed two-day public holiday midweek, and with one day of annual leave on Friday 4 December it becomes five consecutive days away from the office.
This guide answers the two questions everyone asks first — when exactly is it and how many days do I actually get — then shows you what to do with them: every National Day departure we run, what each destination is genuinely good at, what December weather and visa reality look like, and when to book before the last week of November prices you out.

UAE National Day 2026: the exact dates
| Date | Day | What it is | Working day? |
|---|---|---|---|
| 28 November 2026 | Saturday | Weekend | No |
| 29 November 2026 | Sunday | Weekend | No |
| 30 November 2026 | Monday | Commemoration Day | Public holiday |
| 1 December 2026 | Tuesday | Working day | Yes |
| 2 December 2026 | Wednesday | National Day (Eid Al Etihad) | Public holiday |
| 3 December 2026 | Thursday | National Day (day two) | Public holiday |
| 4 December 2026 | Friday | Working day | Yes |
| 5–6 December 2026 | Saturday–Sunday | Weekend | No |
Three things worth knowing about this particular year. First, National Day marks the 55th anniversary of the federation formed on 2 December 1971, so expect a bigger programme of official celebrations than in an ordinary year, and heavier demand on flights out of the country in the same week. Second, the holiday lands midweek: Wednesday and Thursday, not a Friday-to-Saturday block. Third, the Cabinet sometimes adjusts public holidays through an official circular issued a few weeks ahead — so treat the dates above as the statutory position and confirm against the official announcement before you book non-refundable anything.
Why does the midweek position matter commercially? Because most short-haul trips sold as "National Day packages" are built backwards from the holiday itself. A departure that leaves on Friday 27 or Saturday 28 November needs to bring you home before Tuesday 1 December if you are back at work — which is why the four- and five-day fixed departures in our calendar cluster around 27–30 November and 2–6 December rather than the 2nd alone.
How many days off you actually get in 2026
The maths is unusually generous this year because Commemoration Day sits on a Monday and the weekend precedes it. Here are the four realistic scenarios, from zero leave to the full nine-day window.
| Strategy | Leave needed | Consecutive days off | Realistic trip |
|---|---|---|---|
| Holidays only, first block | 0 days | 3 (Sat 28 – Mon 30 Nov) | A long weekend in the Caucasus or Central Asia |
| Holidays only, second block | 0 days | 2 (Wed 2 – Thu 3 Dec) | A UAE staycation or a one-night city break |
| One day of leave, Friday 4 December | 1 day | 5 (Wed 2 – Sun 6 Dec) | Five-day fixed departure: Almaty, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Georgia |
| Two days of leave, Tuesday 1 and Friday 4 December | 2 days | 9 (Sat 28 Nov – Sun 6 Dec) | Far East or Europe: Singapore with Kuala Lumpur, Switzerland, Central Europe |
The five-day option is the sweet spot for most families: it needs a single annual leave day, it avoids the Tuesday, and it lands you back at work on Monday 7 December rested rather than wrecked.
The nine-day window is what makes a long-haul National Day trip viable at all. Two days of leave for nine consecutive days off is the best return you will get from your annual leave all year — and it is why the seven- and eight-night Europe and Far East itineraries sell out first.
One honest warning: if the Cabinet issues an official transfer that bridges 1 December into the holiday, the first block and the second block merge and demand spikes for everything in between. Book the trip you can afford on the dates as they stand rather than waiting to see whether the calendar improves.
Matching the trip to the days you have
The most common National Day booking mistake is choosing a destination before checking whether the flight time and the number of nights actually fit the window. Here is how the trip lengths break down.
Two to four nights: the Caucasus and Tashkent
A three-night, four-day itinerary is the natural fit for the Saturday-to-Monday block. Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Uzbekistan all sit within a three-to-four-hour flight of the UAE, so you lose an evening to travel rather than a day. You land, you have two full days on the ground, and you fly home on the fourth. Our Enchanting Georgia, Beautiful Baku, Historic Armenia and Tashkent departures are all built to exactly this shape.
Four to five nights: Almaty, Uzbekistan and Turkey
With the five-day window (one leave day), a four-night trip is comfortable rather than rushed: two centres, or one city plus its mountains. Almaty works exceptionally well here because the city and the Shymbulak and Medeu mountain resorts are twenty minutes apart, so you get both without a long transfer day. Our Almaty Winter Wonderland and the six-day Antalya Winter Escape fit this bracket, as do the longer Uzbek and Kazakh group departures.
Six to seven nights: Singapore with Kuala Lumpur, and Central Europe
Seven nights needs the nine-day window. It is also the point at which a multi-country itinerary stops being tiring. Singapore and Kuala Lumpur is the classic: three nights in each city and a two-hour hop between them, with Sentosa, Gardens by the Bay, the Batu Caves and the Genting Highlands cable car all inside the plan.
Eight to nine nights: Europe
Eight nights is a proper European tour: three or four cities with a train or coach between each. Our Switzerland and France itinerary and the longer Vienna–Budapest–Prague–Frankfurt–Amsterdam and Switzerland and Italy programmes are built for it. Be aware that eight nights in Europe in December means packing for genuine cold, and that the binding constraint is the Schengen appointment, not the flight.
Every National Day departure we run in 2026
These are fixed departures: the flights, hotels and sightseeing are already contracted, the group travels together, and the price is locked when you book rather than floating with airfare. Prices are per person on twin sharing, before any seasonal surcharge, and every one of them is live in our catalogue with the current figure.

Departures run from Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi depending on the itinerary — several destinations have both a Sharjah and an Abu Dhabi group departure on the same dates, which matters if one airport is much closer to you. The full live list, with current dates and availability, sits on the National Day holiday packages hub.

What a fixed departure actually includes
The phrase gets used loosely, so here is what it means when we sell one. "Fixed departure" means the group has a set date, a contracted block of seats on a named airline and a contracted hotel allocation. You are not buying a flight and a room separately; you are buying a place on a group trip. Practical consequences:
- The price is locked at booking. Airfares in the last fortnight before National Day rise steeply. A fixed departure does not, because the seats were bought in advance.
- Return flights, hotels with daily breakfast, airport transfers, guided sightseeing and the intercity legs listed in the itinerary are in the price. Visa fees, seat selection, optional excursions and meals not listed are not.
- Dates cannot usually be changed. There is no free amendment on a group seat. Read the cancellation terms before you pay, not after.
- Optional add-ons are quoted separately — a theme park ticket, the Northern Lights chase, a safari extension. Ask for the list at booking rather than budgeting for it later.
What December weather is like where you are going
National Day falls at the start of the UAE's best weather, but the destinations split sharply between cold and tropical. Packing for the wrong one is the most common complaint we hear after the fact.
| Destination | Early December | What to pack |
|---|---|---|
| Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan | Cold and crisp, often near freezing at night, single digits by day; snow on the high passes | Proper winter coat, layers, waterproof boots |
| Kazakhstan (Almaty) | Well below freezing, snow on the mountains and often in the city | Heaviest coat you own, thermals, gloves, hat |
| Uzbekistan (Tashkent) | Cold and dry, similar to the Caucasus | Winter coat, layers |
| Turkey (Antalya) | Mild and often sunny by day, cool at night; the sea is cold | Light jacket, one warm layer |
| Central and Northern Europe | Cold, grey, Christmas markets in full swing; Lapland well below freezing with snow | Winter coat, thermals, waterproof shoes; snow gear for Lapland |
| Singapore and Kuala Lumpur | Warm and humid, around 30°C, short heavy afternoon showers | Light cotton, umbrella, one light layer for air conditioning |
| Bali, Thailand, Sri Lanka | Tropical, warm, some monsoon rain depending on coast | Beachwear, rain shell |
| South Africa (Cape Town) | Early summer, warm and dry | Summer clothes plus a layer for evenings |
| Kenya | Warm days, cool mornings on safari | Neutral layers, a fleece for dawn game drives |
The visa reality check for UAE residents
This is where National Day trips are won and lost, and where generic advice does real damage. Being a UAE resident does not by itself get you into anywhere — the requirement follows your passport, not your residence visa. A British passport holder in Dubai and a Pakistani passport holder in Dubai face completely different rules for the same flight.
In broad terms, the Caucasus and Central Asia are the easiest group on this list for many nationalities, which is a large part of why they dominate National Day demand: Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan all offer either visa-free entry or a fast e-visa for a wide range of passports. Turkey and Malaysia are similarly straightforward for many nationalities, while Singapore depends on your passport and always requires the arrival card. Schengen countries are the hardest: you need an appointment, biometrics and lead time, and December appointments are the scarcest of the year.
Two things follow. First, tell us your nationality when you enquire and we will confirm the requirement for your passport before you pay a deposit. Second, for Europe, start the visa process the moment you book — a guaranteed appointment is worth more than a cheaper fare. Our visa services team handles applications, and the visa-free destinations guide shows which passports get in where.
Which airport to fly from
The same National Day trip can be meaningfully cheaper from Sharjah than from Dubai, because low-cost carriers base a lot of capacity there and their National Day seat blocks are bought earlier. Our Georgia, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan group departures run from Sharjah for exactly that reason, and there are matching Abu Dhabi departures for travellers based in the capital. If you are in Dubai, the drive to Sharjah International is usually shorter than the queue at DXB in the last week of November — check the departure airport before you compare two prices.
When to book National Day 2026
National Day is one of the two busiest travel weekends in the UAE calendar, alongside Eid Al Adha. The pattern is consistent every year: fares and hotel rates are calm until roughly six weeks out, climb steadily from mid-November, and spike in the final ten days as everyone who has not booked panics at once.
- Six to eight weeks out (mid-September to mid-October) is the widest choice of flight times, hotel categories and room types, at the lowest prices.
- Four to six weeks out is where the good hotels on the popular departures start showing "on request" instead of available.
- The final fortnight is where you pay a premium for whatever is left, often on a less convenient flight time.
- Europe is different: the flight is rarely the bottleneck. The Schengen appointment is. Start four to six weeks before travel at the absolute minimum, and earlier over the National Day period.
There is one exception to all of this: if you are booking late and want warm weather rather than Europe, a UAE staycation from AED 630 per night has none of the airline risk attached.
Which trip suits which traveller
Families with school-age children
National Day falls inside the school term, so it is one of the few holidays you can take without pulling children out of class. Short flight time and a hotel with a pool matter more than the destination's cultural depth. The Caucasus departures are the best fit — three hours in the air, no jet lag, mountain cable cars and old towns that children actually enjoy. Singapore and Kuala Lumpur is the best long-haul option because Sentosa, the cable car and the theme parks do the work for you.
Couples
Almaty and Georgia give you dramatic scenery with a short flight and a genuinely good restaurant scene; the European Christmas-market itineraries are the romantic pick if you have nine days and a Schengen visa in hand; a UAE resort staycation is the zero-friction version if you would rather not fly at all.
Solo travellers and small groups
A fixed departure solves the solo-travel problem: you are on a guided group with set transfers, so you are not paying a single supplement for a private tour and you are not navigating airport transfers alone. The four-day Caucasus and Tashkent departures are the easiest entry point.
Why book your National Day trip with FlyMoreME
We are a licensed UAE travel agency (DED licence 1489375) operating from Dubai, with a second office in Karachi. We contract these departures in advance, which is what lets us hold a National Day price while the open market is climbing, and we handle the flights, hotels, transfers, sightseeing and visa paperwork as one booking rather than four. If something moves — an airline schedule change, a hotel reallocation — you have one team to call instead of three.

Six mistakes people make when booking a National Day trip
These come up every year, and each one is avoidable with a question asked before you pay rather than after.
- Counting the holiday wrong. Plenty of people assume 2 December is a Thursday-to-Sunday weekend and book a four-night trip they cannot actually take. It is Wednesday and Thursday this year. Count from the calendar, not from last year's habit.
- Booking a return flight on the wrong side of the holiday. A trip that lands you back on Tuesday 1 December and puts you straight into a working day is technically legal and completely joyless. If you are travelling the first block, come home Monday night.
- Assuming a UAE residence visa is a visa. It is not. Your passport decides where you can go, and the person in the next seat may need a different document for the same flight. Check before you pay the deposit, not seven days before departure.
- Buying a package on the headline price alone. Two three-night Georgia packages at the same price can differ by an airport transfer, a meal plan, a cable-car ticket and whether the hotel is in the old town or forty minutes outside it. Compare the inclusions line by line.
- Leaving Europe to the last month. The flight is rarely the problem; the Schengen appointment is. If you are booking a Switzerland or Central Europe itinerary in late October for early December, you are already tight.
- Forgetting the arrival card. Singapore requires an SG Arrival Card and Malaysia requires the MDAC, both completed online shortly before arrival. Families regularly arrive at check-in without them because the package is already paid for and they assume nothing else is needed.
How to compare two National Day packages properly
The same destination at the same price is rarely the same trip. This is the checklist we would use ourselves, in the order that matters.
| What to check | Why it changes the trip |
|---|---|
| Arrival and departure times | A late-night arrival burns a night of the hotel you paid for. A 4am departure means no last-day sightseeing. |
| Nights on the ground, not total days | "Five days" often means three usable days once you subtract two flights. Count the full days mid-trip. |
| Hotel location | Central versus out-of-town changes your evenings. Ask for the area name, not just the star rating. |
| Meal plan | Breakfast-only versus half board is a real daily cost difference, and it decides whether you can walk out for dinner. |
| Transfers | Airport transfers included or payable locally, and shared coach versus private car. |
| Excursion tickets | A cable car, theme park or museum entry that is "mentioned" in the itinerary may still be excluded in the small print. |
| Intercity legs | On multi-country trips, the internal flight or train is the single most expensive item that some packages quietly leave out. |
| Cancellation terms | Fixed departures usually cannot be amended. Know the refund scale before you pay, not when you have to cancel. |
| Group size and language | Twenty people on a coach and a private car tour are different holidays at similar prices. |
If a page does not answer one of these clearly, that is itself information. Ours list the inclusions and exclusions on every package page, and our team will confirm the rest on WhatsApp before you commit.
National Day, Eid Al Adha or the December school break: which window suits which trip
National Day is not the only short-break window of the UAE year, and picking the right one changes what you should book.
- National Day (2–3 December): the best value of the three because it lands inside the school term, so demand from families with school-age children is steady rather than frantic, and short-haul fares have not yet hit the end-of-term peak. Ideal for a three- to five-night Caucasus or Central Asia break.
- The December school break: longer and far busier. Fares rise for the whole second half of December and hotels in Europe surcharge over Christmas and New Year. It is the right window for a nine-night Europe or Far East itinerary, provided you book two to three months ahead.
- Eid Al Adha: the other genuinely peak UAE travel weekend. Dates move with the lunar calendar, so the planning window is shorter and late bookers pay the most here. If your trip needs a fixed school or work window, National Day is usually the more controllable of the two.
Practically: if you have one day of leave and want mountains or a city break, take National Day. If you want Christmas markets or the Northern Lights, take the December break and book earlier. If you want a beach in the middle of summer, you are looking at the Eid windows instead.
Booking with children: what to ask before you pay
Child pricing on a fixed departure is not a straight discount, and the variables are worth knowing before you compare two quotes.
- Age bands matter. Most operators price infants, children sharing with parents without an extra bed, and children with a bed as three separate rates. The cut-off ages differ by hotel and airline.
- Room configuration is the real constraint. A family of four usually needs two rooms or a family room, and the third and fourth occupants are often on a roll-away bed. Ask what the extra bed actually is.
- Flight time beats destination. Three hours to Tbilisi with a mid-afternoon arrival is a fundamentally easier trip with a four-year-old than a seven-hour flight landing at 2am.
- School calendar. National Day falls in term time, which is precisely why it works for families who would rather not pull children out of class for a week.
